How to Visit the Krka Waterfalls
Before we entice you with must-see waterfalls, we share some practical information. You cannot visit the waterfalls 24/7. You access the waterfalls through one of the five entrances to the park. In the summer months, you can enter from eight in the morning to eight in the evening. In the rest of the year, the park closes earlier, as detailed here. Admission prices also vary by season. In June, July, August, or September, you pay around 40 euros. In April, May, and October, you only pay half, and in the other months, the price drops to under 10 euros. Visiting outside peak season is not only cheaper but also more beautiful. In spring and winter, more water flows over the rocks. The park is large, so plan what you want to see and which entrance is the most convenient.
Our Three Favorite Krka Waterfalls
Curious about where to go for the most beautiful Krka waterfalls? Here are our tips:
Roški slap
The river cascades into the Roški slap in many streams over a relatively wide section of the river. Perfect for a refreshing swim. Part of the water is specially designated as a swimming area. Early in the morning, it is quieter but also colder than later in the day. For a good view, walk from the pier to the “necklaces,” a series of smaller waterfalls. Also visit the renovated watermills that were once used for washing textiles or processing wool.
Manojlovac slap
The Manojlovac slap is the highest waterfall in the Krka River. With a height of nearly 60 meters, the water indeed falls far down. You need to walk about 45 minutes to admire it, but that’s not a chore in this area. The waterfall is higher than it is wide and comes down in several streams from the rock. Below lies a pool, from which the water flows away through a narrower and intensely turquoise part of the river.
Skradinski Buk
The largest and most popular waterfall in the park consists of 17 smaller waterfalls. This Skradinski Buk resembles the Kuang Si Waterfall in Laos. This is the waterfall that shines in most tourist brochures. It consists of several levels, and the water flows in many smaller waterfalls from layer to layer. On the riverbank, old cottages and many different tree species stand. Follow the nearly two-kilometer educational walking path for the best views and information about the area. You walk over wooden walkways that you share during peak season with many other visitors. The popularity of this place has benefits, such as the opportunity to explore the surroundings with a boat tour.
Čikola Viewpoint
The Krka National Park is much more than just spectacular waterfalls. You also find dry rocks and lush forests. And fantastic viewpoints such as the Čikola viewpoint. Here, you stand high above the 170-meter-deep and 14-kilometer-long Čikola Gorge. The walls of the gorge are dry and rugged, made of red and gray rock. Caves and the medieval fort of Ključica line the gorge.
Culinary Tip Near Krka: Bonaca in Skradin
Feeling hungry from the hikes in the park? Restaurant Bonaca in Skradin is popular with tourists and locals alike. In the riverside restaurant, you can order dishes with fresh fish and seafood. The restaurant is also a hotel and a good base for exploring the park.
