Essential Documents for a UK Visa Application

Today, I will discuss the documents that you need to present during your visa application or those that might be beneficial.

1. Application Form
You need to print the ‘application form’ which is filled out through the online system, as mentioned in my previous article. You can obtain the printout after logging in to https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ and clicking on ‘Print Application’.

2. Appointment Document
You will also need to print out the appointment you received during the application form filling process. You present this form to the security officer along with your passport when entering on the appointment day. You can take the printout by clicking on ‘View Appointment’.

3. Passport and Copies
You will need to submit the original of your passport with at least two blank pages and a validity of 6 months from the date of travel, along with any old passports you may have. Additionally, you will need copies of the pages 1, 2, 3, and the last (60) page of your passport, as well as the copies of any visas you have obtained previously.

4. Two Photographs
You will need a visa photograph taken within the last 6 months. When you tell the photographer what the photo is for, they will provide you with the correct background and dimensions for that country. The requirements are: facing directly at the camera, ears visible, white background, and the inner dimensions should be 3.5×4.5 cm.

Interestingly, even though this is specified in the documents from the internet and visa agents, they do not accept these photos during the visa application. So, you are essentially taking them for no reason. It seems they have stopped accepting these photos as they now take photographs themselves.

5. Round-Trip Flight Ticket Reservation
You need to provide the printouts of the tickets you have reserved in accordance with your travel dates. Since the printouts are in both Turkish and English, there should be no issues.

6. Hotel Reservation
You will need documentation proving you have made a hotel reservation. If you are booking through booking.com, you can select English for the language to obtain your printout in English.

7. Permission Letter from the Employer
On the letterhead of the organization where you work, you need a stamped letter containing the name and signature of an authorized person stating that you will be on leave during the dates of your travel in ENGLISH. In summary, your company guarantees that you are their employee and intends to visit for tourism, returning to work afterwards. It is advisable to include the signature circular of the person signing the letter. My letter was as follows. I addressed it to the British Consulate General Istanbul, but later I realized that the actual evaluation was done by UK Visas & Immigration. It can also be addressed directly to them.

9. Social Security Service Document
You can access your service document by logging into the e-government system.

10. Payslips
Payslips for the last 3 months must be signed and stamped.

11. Personal Bank Account Statement
You need to obtain a bank statement for the last 3 months dated close to your visa application, which should be stamped, signed, and also include the signature circular. There is information suggesting that a checking account should be preferred, but I always show both.
Your checking account should have sufficient funds to finance your travel. Generally, information indicates that it should be around 30 pounds per day, excluding travel and hotel expenses, but you can leave more to be safe. You also need to obtain a letter from the bank in ENGLISH stating that you have been their customer since a certain date and showing your balance. Some banks apparently do not provide this or were unaware of it; I obtained mine from Yapı Kredi.

12. Income Documents
If available, you can also provide your property deed and vehicle registration as supporting documents.

16. Signature Circular Copy
You can obtain this from your company’s Financial Affairs department. If your name does not appear in it, it does not need to be in English; otherwise, it must be in English.

17. Identity Card Copy
