June in the Countryside: A Personal Reflection

I was fortunate to find myself on a small vacation in early June, although I couldn’t leave the country, which I embraced joyfully. My village June is two days in the village during my vacation and three days off. I opened the swimming season on June 4th, can you imagine!

Below, I gathered some June photos ♥

This is me standing with lupines on a Wednesday morning among our birches. The first summer morning in the village
I was upset that I didn’t buy strawberries, but it turned out we have them growing / A little sour cream treat from our home bakery
Sunset / Sunset / Dry pastries with milk at sunset
I was splitting kindling before leaving for Minsk — it was maximally peaceful.

Two days alone in the village were unforgettable! If you want, you go to the lake; if you want, you sunbathe at home. You can buy food for dinner, or you can not buy it. There are very few dirty dishes, again! Oooh! ♥

I saved a bug from the lake and swam with it to the shore

In general, I wanted to lie on the waterfront in Berlin on a warm evening, sipping beer or lemonade and listening to MEUTE, but this arrangement suited me just fine as well.

Once, I was sunbathing in the garden when a car stopped outside, and a man got out and asked if there were any adults at home. Heh))) It turned out he wanted to mow the grass on our plot for his goats: “I’ll mow it myself and take it away myself.” This way, I solved one of the problems of the large plot, simply by lying on the grass 🙂

In the village, we have a vinyl record player on which we occasionally listen to fairy tales. My favorite is about the Bremen Town Musicians.

On the shelf right by the entrance to the house, some little birds built a nest and laid five eggs there. Four bald chicks hatched, and I felt very sorry for the parent birds because they got scared and flew away every time someone entered or exited the house. One evening, I went out onto the porch and saw that only one chick was in the nest, the second one was on the ground, and ants were already crawling over it. I could not find the other two. Such sad arithmetic.

I didn’t tell my brother or my parents about this then, but the following weekend, mom called and said that there were no chicks, nor an unhatched egg in the nest. It was at that point that I told her about the one remaining chick. Well, let’s hope it just learned to fly.

Time to go to Minsk
Vacation Days

There is a little trailer selling homemade pastries in the village of Ilya, located somewhere on the 60–70th kilometer of the Myadel highway. I bought three poppy seed rolls there and happily devoured them in the morning. Not long after, I ate the most delicious sour cream treat of my life, which was so fresh that the cream had not even set yet.

My brother and I were supposed to leave the village on Sunday evening, but we really didn’t want to go. And just when we seemed to be packed, we still didn’t want to go to Minsk. Hoping for nothing in particular, I said, “What if we stay and wake up at 6 tomorrow and leave in the morning?” To which my brother unexpectedly replied, “Let’s do it!” We jumped into the car and went to the neighboring village to buy some food, after which a neighbor gave us a pot of cold soup.

The road to the village and journaling at night

On the last weekend of June was my mom’s birthday — no better way to end the month could be imagined! Our family gathered, a family friend organized a surprise and came over (dad was happier to see him than anybody else, as if it was his birthday, I swear ☺). That same family friend started teaching me how to play dominoes in the evening at our big table in the gazebo. After dinner, we played board games with the kids there as well. It was a very pleasant day, to sum it up.

The next morning, I had planned to embark on an impressive bike ride, but I realized that I was not prepared for such a feat the morning after a big celebration. So, I stayed in the village to eat watermelon, play dominoes, and enjoy the last June day.
